It bothers me. I mean, being pressured into forced, conformist, outward displays of patriotism seems like North Korea and Soviet Russia to me. What do you think?

I think it depends on the circumstance maybe. Like did it happen during an even where wearing such is commonplace?

But what makes it commonplace except that the other people are wearing it and pressuring everyone else to do so? Is pressured, mandatory patriotism really patriotism at all?

I don't think it should be mandatory. It's like seeing someone wear orange to a funeral. I'd be like, that's kind of weird

I agree. It is North Korea type shit. Yet US Republicans criticize those who do not fall in lockstep.

USAMericans, particularly conservative ones, equate displays of patriotism with being patriotic. Kneeling during the anthem = disrespecting tradition = bad. Having so many flags it's comical and an eyesore? That's maximizing tradition, and therefore maximally good. It's dumb but that's the way it is.

I would actually like to see Trump not wear a flag pin during the SoTU just to fuck with people. It'll be funny as Republicans and Democrats both immediately do a complete 180° on the issue.
