Just add &sout=1 to the end of the URL, then you get the old layout. I think there's a Greasemonkey script for it. It looks hideous though, IMO.

Yeah, unfortunately that's how it's probably going to end up. Buzz and Wave were both highly publicised, but failed in the end. It's a shame, because it looks like a cool concept.

Google+ seems to be attracting a lot of attention, more than Buzz or Wave IIRC. I really hope it doesn't meet the same fate, but it will only work if it becomes popular and everyone starts using it.
