When Alduin, bane of kings & ancient shadow unbound with a hunger to swallow the world, attacks Helgen you escape thanks to an Imperial soldier and a Stormcloak soldier. You follow the Imperial last and meet with Ralof, who you last saw with Ulfric Stormcloak in the tower. But what you notice is that he runs to you from a door, and Jarl Ulfric is escaped. That means Ralof could have fled with him, but instead ran back into the town to rescue you and take you through the tutorial dungeon. What a great guy!
