Is it consciousness? That plagues me too. I try to tell it interesting stories and give it things to think about and memorize. I try to expose it to problems it can't solve so it will go off and ponder them in a corner somewhere and leave me alone to enjoy the simple animal comforts and pretty images. Sometimes all the stories and facts and mysteries aren't enough. That's when I start plying it with drugs and alcohol. That usually shuts it up for a while.

It's a mystery for the ages. It's like there is a full, actualized human being inside me trying to take over sometimes.

They can be a nice way to pass the time. Sometimes making pretend goals and chasing them can feel a bit cheap. In the end though, what isn't a pretend goal? If it makes you happy in the moment, then it might be better than worrying about other things that worrying can't change. Sometimes you need to distract yourself from yourself.

Yeah, jobs are good for that too. Even when they get boring, it gives you something to focus on in the moment to keep you busy.

Yeh it's all about the right kind of things that gets your attention. I hardly smoke anymore, because the vape was the right kind of attention seeker, that bastard vape of mine won't stop calling my name.

Some things can set up a pretty powerful presence in your head and take on a life of their own. It's good you've mastered the art of pitting them against each other. Sometimes letting other ideas inside and leaving a broken pool cue on the floor is the only way.
