They all make you enter your adjusted gross income from the last years return...to file this years return electronically...ITS STUPID AF..
Then if you dont have that you have it you have to ask the IRS to send it to you...THEN you can get the IRS to send it by email IF you have a credit card(no charge) BUT if you dont you have to get it by mail..

Tedious bullshit..

I have some small investments and you have to pay like $50 to get the version that'll let you file the 1099s from Etrade (free version won't do it).

I mean it takes like 15-20 minutes. Honestly I can just fill out and print the 1040 faster in Adobe Acrobat than going to TurboTax and signing up for all their bullshit. You just take the numbers from this form and put it on that line. It's not that hard really. People act like you need to be a CPA to figure it out but I think anyone with, like, third grade reading and math skills could fill out a 1040.

Second that. I've done mine on paper for years. I don't trust doing them online.

I actually had a g/f who laughed at me for doing mine on paper and then it was revealed that a bunch of online returns from the university we were working at had been intercepted and a bunch of people had their identities stolen.

You sound like an old lady, terrified of technology.

I do sound a bit like that times. I'm only terrified when it comes to actually trusting a relatively new and ill-equipped technology with something important.

Online tax prep has been around for decades, grandma.

And it's had to keep up with a rapidly changing security landscape as every year saw new variations of old scams. For the record, I don't distrust online tax prep or tax prep software. That's usually pretty handy. It's the process of online filing that worries me.
