I live just a mile from the center of the city; there's a lot going on, here. It's a decent neighborhood, but it's close to Amtrak and Greyhound, there are some shelters nearby, there are bridges to sleep under, and it's just outside the zone in which alcohol favored by street drinkers isn't sold.

Not only that, but the temperatures are always quite mild, drugs are plentiful and cheap, and the populace doesn't treat them like dirt. It's a homeless person's dream :-\
