Topic: Taking anti-man medication for my hair?

Anonymous A started this discussion 7 years ago #83,403

I've been considering going and getting prescribed sometimes called avodart. It's very effective at blocking a hormone called DHT which supposedly is the reason men go bald, it's a hormone called "the more potent testosterone. I don't want my hairline to recede further but I said that a long time ago.

I love that modern western men are scared shitless about losing their masculinity to chemicals. They're so insecure in their own masculinity they are afraid of soy beans and hair loss treatments. It's like our own modern echo of Koro syndrome where scared men tie ropes around their penises to keep from losing them.

Men have for the longest time had theories about masculinity and what helps or harms it, it's nothing new. Besides, we are talking about actual effects on hormones here, it's a reasonable concern.

lol that's too bad. It gets worse as you age though, so I don't see the point of addressing the current state.

I think your question "Is making yourself less masculine worth it for your hair?" is worth some examination. Is it just the hormones that make you masculine? Male-pattern baldness is arguably a masculine trait. Do you worry that having more hair will make you less masculine too? Is masculinity just the hormones in your system?

I would but apparently Asian men bald too.

My real worries about this isn't exactly masculinity but my well being, more specifically how I handle stress. Lots of people who have been on this medication, they say it makes them more sensitive.

Personally I wouldn't fuck with hormones just because I'm going bald
