4GB. Wow. You had better start playing Battlefield 5 on ultra settings.

Cosmic Cuttlefish is such a great name for an OS version.

500 gig hard drive so you can store about a million micropenis images at 500kB per image.

The Pentium 4 chokes trying to render a YouTube video in 1080p and it's almost like a slide show.

I find it kind of sad that this would have been absolutely top of the line 15 years ago and now it can barely play a YouTube video. How did the web get so bloated?

LibreOffice and non-video web browsing still work really well though.

LOL Yeah, no one was using their Pentium 4 back in the day to stream HD video to their SVGA CRTs. You can adjust the quality down on YouTube videos until they run. I've streamed old TV shows on a Pentium 3 box with shitty onboard Intel graphics without too much trouble.

> How did the web get so bloated?
I have no fucking clue, but it has in a lot of ways. Look around you now and start coming up with your "back in my day..." stories. You'll want to have them ready for when you get older.

Find an Nvidea GT 8800 used and maybe YouTube will work... idk if browsers use the video card though

"Back in my day..." stories will just be generated automagically by the Facebooks with @'s to all the ignorant young people you know.

YouTube was founded in 2005. I think it was 360p (or 240?) in the beginning.

I have no doubt this mid range 2005 desktop would have been able to watch 2005 YouTube without a problem.

The site didn't launch until December 2015 though.
It is also able to watch a 2019 YouTube video in 360p!! Possibly even better since html5

A question I did not ask in your AMA
Why are you spending time on this relic? Honestly there is much more fun to be had with Strawberry Pi. And even old computer parts mated with Strawberry Pi end up truly useful and fun - If I remember correctly Dreamworks not long ago was playing with one. - I have one that just helps me with my morning cup of Triple Espresso

I do own a Raspberry Pi 3B. This Pentium 4 is actually, believe it or not, a better computer. Mainly because it has 4 vs. 1 GB RAM and it feels like the Pentium 4 is just a bit faster. If I had to pick one to be to be my only computer, I'd pick the Pentium 4.

Add in 500GB HDD vs 64GB on the Pi and it's no contest.

That being said, the Pi definitely has better video and doesn't choke on 1080p as bad. But 1 GB RAM runs out fast with more than a few things open.

As for why, I just kind of enjoy computing on a vintage machine sometimes. It's fun. I want a Pentium 3 next.

You can but it fills up more pixels on the screen now. It used to be smaller on the screen. So even if its still 360p, the computer has to render like 720p area of pixels.
