Ouzo? Sambuca? Maybe with a more bitter flavor in the background. Absinthe is maybe more fun if go through whole process with some ice water and sugar and a little spoon. Watch it cloud up. Sip it gently. It adds a little ritual to the whole thing.

Licorice. Didn't care for it (because I don't like licorice ?)

I was the weird kid at school who couldn't understand why the other kids were trading me their delicious black jelly beans for pretty unimpressive chocolate stuff.

When you pour Ouzo over ice it instantly forms a cloud. If you do this below 32 F - As you pour from the glass onto your tongue, snowflakes fall from the cloud. If you pour to fast, you get tiny bits of hail.

The trick is pour slowly enough so you have time to bless the rain as it falls.

Once I made it known that I was the licorice freak, I got all the licorice jelly beans for free.

I've never been fond of chocolate, so I was usually happy to trade. Your approach was probably the smarter, more business savvy way to handle it though.

same
also pretty much exclusively drank sambuca during my first year of uni bc it's as cheap as cheap vodka, 40%, tastes better, and nobody else wants any

Sambuca is pricier than most low- and medium-price vodkas here!

That is because of taxes to support the Queen + Court and Fox hunting territories and the Falkland Islands cost of protection against insurrection.
