main problem is that the way things are going, the us government is likely gonna try and force sites it doesn't like onto the .xxx domain nsfw or not.

Except they can't, because they don't control ICANN. They tried in the past to control ICANN and China started work on IPv5 (it's why we skipped from v4 to v6), and other countries were pissed. Eventually ICANN was made independent of the US government to fix this problem.
