Topic: How come this government shutdown feels very serious this time?

Anonymous A started this discussion 7 years ago #82,683

Yet the few times it shut down during the Obama administration it was merely a flavor of the week?

The few times? Did I miss some?

it's part of Grover Norquist's plan to shrink government "enough to drown it in a bathtub"

we used to fear anarchists in the years around 1900, but now it's mainstream

The media liked Obama but hates Trump. This is why they didn't give Obama a hard time about it.

That's why they're all giving him air time tonight, right?

There was one, 16-day shutdown under Obama. This is the second under Trump, and already at day 18.

I thought there were two government shut-downs under Obama and they both were short compared to Trump's?

No, only one, and it lasted 16 days: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Government_shutdowns_in_the_United_States#List_of_federal_shutdowns

That has nothing to do with ABC/CBS/NBC liking him or not. Which they don't.

Fox and AM radio do like Trump, of course. (And obviously this was reversed for Obama)

I don't understand the "media hates Trump" narrative. If anything, they seem to love him. They cover him all the time. The more he yells about fake news and them being an enemy of the people, the more they give him a platform to do so. It doesn't sound like they hate him at all. CNN was actively fighting for its ability to cover the White House.
