The Heavens Gate house is 6 miles east of me. Actually the house was renting for $7000/month and weird that when it went up for sale no one wood touch it so neighbors bought it for a fraction of the cost and bulldozed it and got the name of the street changed to kill the traffic.
The owner at the time of the suicides, lost the mansion to foreclosure, and was later convicted of (unrelated) fraud and conspiracy.
Hope all of those wackos are enjoying the ride on the UFO that was attached somehow to the Hale-Bopp Comet.

The people of Heaven’s Gate spared no detail in planning their escape from Earth, and were lined up neatly in bunk beds, dressed exactly alike in black shirts and sweatpants, identical Nikes, purple cloth covering their faces, and exactly $5.75 in each pocket.
