Why do think he made the song? Generation X may be full of cynical, apathetic proto-hipsters, but a big part of that is taking your music career unseriously enough to not give a fuck if you overdose on heroin. The only reason to pursue a music career back then was to be able to afford enough heroin to finally overdose. Back in the day, the reward for making it big was finally being able to kill yourself instead of suffering into old age and bothering everyone around you with stories they pretended to interested in that they had to listen to just because they wanted you to hurry up and die so they could have some of your stuff. Better to be remembered for just making your mark, dropping the mic, and getting the fuck off the stage for the next act.
