As someone who used to work in the theatre industry I can tell you, theatres are always looking for ushers. You just got to keep trying. Often there are theatre groups to help you get a foot in the door like "friends of the theatre" ect.
To add to that... Box office is also usually looking to hire and sometimes stage crew, full time and casual. You got to be persistent and contact the relevant departments.
