In this country Public Schools and Private Schools are much the same thing.
Virtually every schoolboy in this country in secondary Education [11 yrs+] wears a tie.
We refer to ordinary day schools as State schools
A place like my school or Eton say are Public schools [which ofcause arn't public at all.]
Latin is still taught in many Public Schools

The kids in the movie "Kidulthood" (set in London) didn't wear ties, if I recall correctly. Is it because they went to a cheap inner-city school or is it just an inaccuracy?

Have not seen the film. Certainly there are non uniform Schools. But by far and away the vast majority have a school uniform and thus a tie.

You might find the movie interesting. I recommend it. It's kind of the British version of the film "Kids", released a few years earlier.
