Image went missingSince my house got raided by the police a few years ago, I've preferred laptops. You can easily move/hide them, they're compact, whatever. Anyway after breaking 3 laptops in under a year I think it's time to upgrade. I'm would like to buy a couple 24 inch monitors and a mid tier computer,

Before I pull the trigger, I wanna know from people who have dual monitors, are they worth having? Do they dramatically increase productivity? Do you use them to their full potential all the time (for example, having IRC/e-mail/Skype/etc dedicated to one monitor so the other one can be used for browsing the web)? Or is it all just a gimmick?

well anyway my dad recently got his dual monitor setup back and shits nice
its much easier if you have virtual machines or if youre always remoting computers
also nice if you do coding a lot or have lots of windows open at once
i think its pretty cool
i never used it for games but i heard thats nice too

I was talking to guy at work once who worked for a company that did a study on how dual monitors can increase productivity. He said that it depends on the size of the monitors and how far you sit from them. There study found that if you have to move your head/eyes too much to keep track of what you're doing, it cancels out any productivity the extra monitor(s) will give you. If that's the case, you're better off just having one very large monitor instead of multiple smaller ones.
