Topic: Read my (partial) memoir?
hamfist !!mtq555+/1 started this discussion 15 years ago #8,210 This shit will probably come off as self-indulgent and juvenile - that's because it is. Read at your own risk.
I always promise myself not to be too indulgent when writing – I figure if people want to hear privileged white people complain they would read Catcher in the Rye or listen to grunge. Alas, I will compromise my morals (as usual) to churn out the clichéd muses of my own life. As a military kid I never really enjoyed the luxury of long-term friends. I was born in Europe and promptly flown to one of millions of the suburbs in the United States, where I spent my years as an infant. We moved westward when I was three years of age, and these migratory patterns have remained the same ever since. I encountered a peculiar stroke of luck in which I lived in the same town for five years – enough time to make a nice set of acquaintances (all long gone) throughout elementary school. Following the “golden age†was the fifth move, which I try not to think of. Number six was Europe again for two years, half of those years which I would prefer to erase. This leaves me to move seven – “lucky†seven; back in the US, southbound this time. I long for the years of elementary school with the same bittersweetness a drunkard longs for his ex-wife. Of course, my memories were viewed through the rose-tinted pupils of youth - were I to go back there today I’m sure I would hate it just as much as I hate this place. No, that’s not fair; this town has done nothing to me, and I’m sure my “home†town would be just as benign. It’s my own fault for being so unpleasant, and I can acknowledge that. Countless nights I have found myself wide awake, crying because I shouldn’t be so miserable. It’s a vicious cycle of idiocy that I’ve grown accustomed to. I’ve never told anyone this, but the first time I felt hopelessly depressed is back when I was five. I just got out of the bathtub and was running around in the living room when my towel fell, leaving me naked in front of my family. It sounds stupid. I know it’s stupid. Nevertheless, ever since that point in my life I’ve been through a series of modest ups and ruthless downs.

Young, healthy, and nothing except possibilities, what happens is up to you.
Emo fuck. Get a fucking hair cut and leave the goddamn house.

That was a lot sadder than I thought it would be. :(

He moved around a lot when he was younger, I can imagine it being very hard for someone so young. Don't be a dick, we dodn't all have the privilege of being hot white trash.

Sook. I've probably moved more than you, and I'm completely normal. Childhood friends are a thing of anime, they don't actually exist.
