I missed this. For contract reasons years ago I installed a diesel back up for power. At the time I did not include my kitchen and house heater and a few other things. Since then I added a second generator because costs sure have come down. Rewiring the whole house just seemed to be to much of a bother and city permits are a hassle in coastal commission zone in calif.
I test the system 4X/yr so I am confident plus I still have T1 lines for UNIX per a contract with client - Telco that provides T1 lines operate on battery with Huge Diesels to keep them charged and floating. All that said IF just IF Earthquake takes down my bluff then my Generators will be down on beach n of no use.

Solar panels of course but really need to update those because they are aging out. If grid were to go down for over 7 days then I well let's just say I will be more reliant on survival skills acquired from mountain climbing.
For sure I do NOT spend much tyme thinking bout the grid going kaput.
Anyway in a few minutes I get to start a fun day AFTER I get my gym time in
