Transgender patient was left depressed and suicidal after 'losing his penis' when he surgically transitioned to a woman without having psychoanalysis first

Psychotherapist Bob Wither treated a transgender patient.
After transitioning from man to woman he regretted it and became suicidal
He stressed people with gender dysphoria should get psychotherapy before
Trans journalist India Willoughby says it's only controversial because it's new

[Editors note] What the Fuck - How is this new when this shit has been going on for decades -*Lili Elbe was the first known recipient of male-to-female sex reassignment surgery, in Germany in 1930. Surgery somewhat a failure due to death.

A psychotherapist has described the heartbreaking experience of treating a transgender patient who 'regretted losing his penis'.

Bob Wither says the reason he is so concerned about the increasing numbers of people being referred to clinics with gender dysphoria is one man he treated 25 years ago.

He told Good Morning Britain: 'The reason why I'm so concerned is... the very first person I saw 25 years ago had been living as a woman for nine years and had fully transitioned.

'At which point she realised it had been a big mistake. Sorry I know it's breakfast television, but he'd lost his penis, it was really a deep tragedy for him.

'He was very suicidal and very depressed. He recovered, But he really wish he'd had psychoanalysis before he surgically transitioned. That's why I'm so passionate about this.

Mr Wither was on Monday morning's programme with India Willoughby, 51, a transgender journalist who claims the 'uproar' over increasing numbers of people identifying as trans is only so big because the issue is 'relatively new'.

The debate came after the Mail on Sunday revealed 17 children at one single British school are in the process of changing gender.

Teachers at the school claimed the majority of the youngsters are autistic, which has raised concerns about the vulnerability of children who start changing gender at a young age.

Host Piers Morgan asked how it could 'possibly be right' that 17 children at one school could claim to be the wrong gender.

Mr Wither stressed society needs to prioritize child protection.

He said: 'I think that get overlooked and we should have that conversation together.

How can we best prevent people having unnecessary surgery?

'And can we agree that if anybody transitions and ends up regretting it, they have lost their fertility, their sex life is very likely to be seriously impaired...'

I'm sorry the jews have tricked him into chopping off his penis but he really didn't think this through. Too much attention on feelings rather than medical facts.

He treated the guy in 1993, and the guy had been living as a woman since 1984. Maybe, just maybe, the cultural attitudes had something to do with it? Kind of amazing if a therapist can point to only one unhappy transgender person in his career. Doesn't that kind of disprove his point? Also his hair. Thanks.

You don't think that people need psychoanalysis before gender reassignment surgery?

tl;dr: The Daily Mail runs trashy, sensationalized stories about tranny regret every other day even if they have to make shit up or dig up old news stories to do it.

Playing Devil's Advocate here, but wouldn't it be trivial for someone to memorize and recite the "correct" answers to pass the pre-SRS psychoanalysis?

No because of informed consent clinics the standards are much lower

If it is that trivial, than trannies wouldn't have pushed so hard for informed consent and also demonized "gatekeeping"

Yes and I think that should require some mental health checks as well. But I also think that getting your nose tweaked is a lot different from turning your dick inside out.

What if that person is fucked in the head and the change will make them a danger to themselves and others.
For instance Nexus, killed a Cop after the transition. Of course Nexus life was also prematurely ended.

uhhh nexus killed a dog (not that that's better - i'd rather see a dead cop than a dead dog! i have a tattoo that says this. just kidding) after binging on acid and meth for god knows how long

I thought IC clinics dealt with hormones not surgery. I could be mistaken though, I don't follow this stuff too closely.

Because it is a roadblock. I mean I don't think it screens out autogynephiles from real transsexuals (or whatever it's supposed to do).

I really don't support roadblocks at all for adults to get HRT or SRS. They're your genitals - you should be able to do what you want with them.

I think the original intent was to talk the change through with a psychologist over a period of a year or longer while you begin taking gradual steps. It wasn't just a questionnaire you could memorize the answers to. A mental health professional would have to sign off on your state of mind and the sessions would provide a bit of a "cool-down" period while making sure you understood exactly what you were getting yourself into. The idea being that someone would be there while you gradually started hormones, changed your appearance, and involved friends and family in your decision before taking the final steps. At least that's the ideal scenario.

Of course, we live in a world where you get someone with some medical qualifications to sign off on massive amounts of pain-killers, amphetamines, weed, bone spurs, or whatever you want if you have enough money. People will probably find a way to short circuit any kind of system of checks put in place - on both ends, both patients wanting a procedure and doctors wanting to make money. It probably varies from state to state in the US, but any roadblocks are probably just roadblocks for the poor.
