如果我今天受命運的約束,
你會後悔沒有試圖說再見
I did this in Chinese - Its not exactly as poetic as in English yet I had no need to spend 30 years learning language's that did not even include Chinese.
I could fiddle with the English to make the Chinese cum out more better but have news to catch up on

You said
If I today am bound by fate to die,
You'll regret not trying to say goodbye.
Simple Google Translate makes it
If I am bound by fate today, You will regret not trying to say goodbye
Must be that Google in its current wisdom converts "to die" with "today"
Now in fact Death is something we all have to accept eventually JUST NOT Today.

So with degree in hand yet not a single USA employer had any need for his useless skills he moves to China to teach English LoL
So yes he did learn a weee bit of Chinese - Only so he could order off the street Stir Fried Chinese Garbage. It was there he developed a taste for Dog Cat Rat and other Vermin which is popular in China.
He also ate a lot of cream of sum young guy.

I put the question re Proficiency to Google
However, to become fluent, experts estimate that it'll take 2,200 class hours. If you put the rest of your life on hold and focused only on studying Chinese – at 5 hours of practice a day, it would take you 88 weeks. When it comes to Chinese
