Topic: Can someone tell me if this is a good router?

Catherine !ttGirlsPl2 started this discussion 7 years ago #80,413

A part of the problem I think is that my router, as Syntax once suggested, cannot handle Spectrum's speeds that they offer. In fact, the cable guy even recommended getting a new router too. I am thinking of getting one, but can I get some opinions on this one?

Also if the current one has the modem there's no point adding a second router

This Shtick is getting OLD -

With a fast look at the Specs the Answer is NO NO NO NO NO WAY - Based on how you have explained in the past how you use a Router the ANSWER IS NO

That Router will NOT NOT NOT WORK FOR YOU.

1: It is higher End WI-FI Router - Tell me how are you going to connect hard wired Cat-5 to it? Do you even see a single Cat RJ45 female as in FEMALE to plug in2?

2: R U doing this to Frustrate Me?

3: The only Port it has is ONE SUPERSPEED USB 3.0 PORT

4: In theory only your Bro has moved out so who is using more than one Cat-5?

5: Before you do ANYTHING - You need to run a speed test on the MODEM UPLOAD AND DOWNLOAD AND post it

6: Why are you frustrating me?

7: IF For some reason you need to CAT-5 cable connects then just get a FREE Modem from Spectrum with TWO that is 2 RJ45's

He says no one uses the WI-FI so he now wants to buy a Higher End Wi-Fi device that will not service his Cat-5 Cable feeds - Not that his new choice will but go figure.

He has a modem/router combo so he should first look at getting a new modem and then look for routers after.

Yes indeed. But from his many many many many many prior posts his Combo only has One Cat-5 RJ45 Connector and apparently even with his bro moved out he still needs Two RJ45's

Apparently no one in is house uses Wi-Fi

Why does that matter? The router will have plenty of Ethernet ports he can use.

Much less expensive routers typically have 4 ports - The one She selected only has ONE! Nor does it match the Cat-5 Ethernet connector

Of course she could spend even more money to buy a USB to Cat-5 RJ45 converter - about $10 Per and she wood need two of them - $40 IF She really has a 2nd User

1: If she has been truthful and honest with us she now only needs One Port

2: That One Port now needed, exists on her Spectrum Modem/Router Combo (In theory there is now no other Ethernet user except for Cathy

2a: All she needs is to give up on a external Router and use the Spectrum provided Combo

2b: Of course she should first try a speed test on that one to verify it's working properly because her upload speed is Dial Up

3: Spectrum at no charge will exchange that Modem/Router with one that has Two Ethernet Ports which of course will no longer have anyone in the household to use the 2nd port

Many of us have concluded that this is all SHTICK
