Sometimes my phone won't charge and I have to remove the battery and put in but in. Does this mean that I need to clean the connectors?

OK so first do the battery cleaning - Before you do this do take a good look at the contact areas - Gold should be really shinning and if there is any gooo at all then that battery should be discarded and replaced.

That should solve the problem - Next step wood be to again swab the contact areas but leave some Alcohol moisture and insert battery

a charger can go bad...the ends get a bit deformed..
try a new or near new charger cord..
