No, the Cotton/Perdue bill endorsed by Trump drastically reduced legal immigration into the U.S. as well. Republicans don't want immigrants.

Chain migration is different than a merit based system. And to conclude Republicans don't want immigrants at all is simply not true. They want legal immigrants, merit based. Proof me wrong.

I...just did? The Cotton/Perdue bill ended the diversity lottery and instituted a merit based system while cutting green cards IN HALF and limiting refugees to 50,000. If it were true that republicans wanted just a different type of immigrant (more skilled, wealthier, or whatever), they would have reformed the approval process and left the amount of immigrants the same, or hell, increased it.

"Don't want immigrants" =/= "want 0 immigrants". They want to dramatically reduce the number of immigrants.
@933,655 (C)
You say they want legal, merit based immigrants and yet when they introduce bills to do that, they dramatically reduce the number of immigrants we're accepting. Which tells me they don't really want immigrants.

Oh, okay. Thats your assumption. Trump literally stated he loves immigrants, legal ones and merit based. But you're free to believe they're against all immigrants. Great reasoning!

Funny how you got triggered so much by me posting "legal immigrants". Shouldn't all immigrants come legally?

3 Trump properties posted 144 openings for seasonal jobs. Only one went to a US worker.
“America First” doesn’t seem to apply to the president’s own businesses.

properties in New York and Florida revealed that only one out of 144 jobs went to a US worker from 2016 to the end of 2017. Foreign guest workers with H-2B visas got the rest.

It's not an assumption, it's literally the words in the bill. What Trump says he likes has nothing to do with it (not that his words are worth much).

Also how am I "triggered"? I am just disagreeing with you.

Trump states a lot of things. The word vomit that falls from his mouth is not policy, proof of his positions, or related to reality.

No because that's not the position I'm defending. I think this might just be a linguistic/semantic difference. I'm saying Republicans want dramatically less immigration, contrary to the wishes of the broader American public, for reasons that I cannot see as grounded in compassion,

I disagreed with your assessment that Republicans' only issue is with illegal immigration. Obviously they also don't like how many legal immigrants are coming in or they wouldn't have proposed to cut that in half.

It's like saying I don't anything to drink vs I want less to drink. Its not the same. This is going nowhere.

Where did I state that? Stop putting words in my mouth. I didn't "asses" their only issue is with illegal immigration. I posted two words and you take all that from it? Amazing.

Ok, though for the record, nowhere did I say I think republicans want literally zero immigration (because I don't think that). That was some kind of rhetorical miscommunication between us.

Well following the claim that "republicans don't want immigrants", a discussion started where the phrase was repeated several times, except the word "they" was used in place of the word "republicans" (At the start of the discussion meaning the mainstream Republicans).

You said

> Trump literally stated he loves immigrants, legal ones and merit based. But you're free to believe they're against all immigrants.

For this argument to logically stand, it requires that one accepts that Donald Trump can speak for the mainstream republicans.
