I thought black panther was rubbish. Lots of unnecessary shit in the script, and bad CGI that looks so low budget in places. A super advanced society that chooses its leader via bongo drum death match, and so an outsider comes in and instantly and totally changes the values of the society and everyone goes along with it... I'm not buying it.
Just a really average movie, mostly predictable, and not what the critics say it is. Everyone went full sjw and no one is allowed to say bad things about the black people movie, because racisme

Wakanda is what happens when some white guys look at a few African countries, stereotype them all together and then write a comic. The black panther movie is what happens when you hire black Americans to be these African stereotypes and they try to black it up for the cameras to get street cred, instead of writing a good script.

So much of it is just a little off. I don't know how much comes from the comic and how much was the director and art director but there's the movie, and then there's some injected parody of "African culture" and then back to the movie.
You know when movie franchises have an odd character bought back for a cameo, in a scene that makes little sense to have in the movie, doesn't advanve the plot or anything but fans love it? This is Africa fan service for black Americans, by white Americans.
It just misses the mark with me.

Show me where its made by black people? The idea was created by white people.
Also the idea that a futuristic society would wear those things is laughable. White people use to do such things, but we don't make our white super heroes do them or put "white" on front of all super hero names.
It would be like if we had an Asian super hero and we called him Chinese Charlie, and everyone of his people wore coolie hats and they use that "oriental" style writing for his font.

Do you think just showing those things is racist? The way the movie tried to use those things as links to a cultural past was a little hamfisted, but I didn't see the inclusion of those things as being part of a plot that presented Wakanda or the people there as primitive. Wakanda is actually pretty technologically advanced.
Both the Wonder Woman and Thor movies had backstories that were a confusing mishmash of cultural symbols that mixed primitive myth and technological advancement. Did you find those films problematic?

Do you think bongo drums are responsible for oppressing black people?
I get that maybe drums remind you of racist cartoons or something, but that's an association you have to make in your own head. The movie doesn't do it for you. You really have to take the drums and the costuming out of the context of the movie and read in your own prejudices for that to feel oppressive. A lot of people saw the movie as a celebration of liberation and self-autonomy without getting too hung up on pelts or giant beads.
