Topic: How come it feels like when you're a registered voter...

Catherine !ttGirlsPl2 started this discussion 7 years ago #79,488

...other people try to get you to vote according to them?

If you care this deeply about a certain proposition then why don't you fucking register to vote yourself?

It feels like I'm essentially voting for my household since my brother is in this "my vote no matter" state of mind and my mother clings to her "I never voted once in my life" bullshit.

If you want to vote for a certain outcome then fucking register and vote yourself.

Jesus...

California doesn't really encourage voting down party lines since now you might see two Democrats on the ballot but no Republicans for a certain position.

It's cool, but I don't keep up with state officials that much.

You should realize that in California, your vote on the federal level probably won't matter in either direction.

Pay attention to your local elections, like city and county, that's where real change starts.

I know I am voting Yes on Prop 8 and No on Prop 11 since a friend told me about this since he's an ambulance worker so he knows a thing or two about what these propositions address.

One ambulance worker is your only source of information.
They need to yank your right to vote for the next decade.

Who better than someone who actually works in that field?
I'm sure as shit am not going to get information from some politician who likely never been in an ambulance as the people who save lives or some corporate asshole who only cares about profit margins.

I didn't register to a party which means I cannot vote in primaries, but whatever.
I do tend to favor Democrats most days though unless there is a Republican that really wins me over.

That was me who came down on you. You seem to be willing to spend lots of time on games and even ask people for advise about this or that about a game.

Nor have I done my own homework to decide how I will vote on 8

I submitted a quick search with Do Ambulance drivers support prop 8

My top results are probably different than yours wood be with the same exact question because Google sensed where I live and up on top they selected a passage from the local city/county paper

Proposition 8 would improve the quality of care for the 66,000 Californians who are on dialysis, and that's why the initiative is supported by the California Democratic Party; CalPERS, the nation's largest public pension fund; firefighters; patients; healthcare advocates; dialysis workers; veterans; and 130 other ...Jul 25, 2018

Now I have NOT read what is in that link YET

The next choice is

http://www.latimes.com/opinion/editorials/la-ed-endorsements-proposition-8-20180926-story.html

And on and On with one link saying vote Yes then another with NO

Bottom line is interesting re those that support only have $22 million to lobby for support and those again with $99 million as of October 11.

So with a very very quick skim I might vote as You with Yes but for sure it will be more than one single person making up my mind 4me

Oh and apologizes for my suggesting they take away your vote for a decade

And a quick look for relevant image and in one second I chose this one albeit it's for the other coast but U should get a kick out of it

> I didn't register to a party which means I cannot vote in primaries
You should have been able to vote in our last primary. I'm in California, and I've never declared a party in either. Statewide and congressional offices run in a nonpartisan open primary. (the "top two" primary that you may have heard people getting nervous about back in June) As I understand it, there are still party primaries for presidential candidates, county, and local offices.

@926,368 (Dead !Pool..v42s)
> You should realize that in California, your vote on the federal level probably won't matter in either direction.
There are some close House races that could make a difference, and Kevin De León is challenging Dianne Feinstein for her Senate seat. Some of the midterm races are worth watching.

> Pay attention to your local elections, like city and county, that's where real change starts.
That's definitely good advice.

No, registering to vote should be automatic upon you reaching your 18th birthday. He is confused why you can even be an adult citizen without being registered.

OK
Here in California everyone who ends up at DMV to renew the drivers license now automatically gets registered. To opt out takes a lot of extra time and waiting in line if one decides to opt out.

On news last night one gal received 4 ballots in the mail and 3 were the result of this new process - Change of her last name to new married name. Then an address change.

I may also end up with two ballots. Trust me on this - Being older and of so called feeble mind I will be sure to cast my vote(s) but don't quote me on that

In America it’s considered racist to require an ID to vote. You’re supposed to just walk and say who you are and vote without one. It’s an honor system.
