I feel like such an idiot.
I tried to plug my desktop PC directly to the modem via the extender and extra CAT6 cables I bought then was surprised to find that it didn't fit into the modem.
Then I realized those weren't ethernet ports at all.

It’s probably one of those shitty old Surfboard modems with a cable jack to go to the router and a telephone port for VOIP.

Take that modem back to spectrum and trade it in for one with two ports.
OR
Temporarily disconnect the router and plug your pc into that Modem port and test for speed. Then put the router back and and when you use its port again test for speed.

Cathy has not yet tried buttering any network hardware and sticking it to the ceiling. I, for one, would welcome this development. It would really tie some of the storylines together in a satisfying way.
