I don't think the one that Spectrum gave me, at least, up here anyway is a modem/router combo. But I really think I am going to get a more expensive router in the future since I am getting tired of the internet speeds and not being authorized to do anything about it due to some lazy fucker who refuses to log into their account to authorize me. I tried to convince them that I could take care of it if they simply authorized me, but they only made a fucking joke about how I can't do anything almost as if they were finding an excuse not to do something so simple. How lazy do you have to be to not click a fucking mouse button or type something in on a keyboard? However, I am thinking you're right since our router does seem like it might be unfit to handle Spectrum's speeds. I am thinking of getting a better more expensive router because I am tired of this bullshit. It's the least I could do if I can't get authorized due to a lazy relative.
I already looked up this article on Google about finding the right router, but I was wondering if you had any suggestions yourself.

I'm not familiar with what your router config panel looks like, so I don't know what that dropdown menu is for. Most routers usually specify it in some advanced options menu as a/b/g/n/whatever standard rather than in Mbps.
I doubt your router being stuck in an older mode is actually the cause. I was just thinking it would be funny if something that simple was the problem all along.

You have to buy a new modem too if you’re buying just a router. Also, you’ll have to call Spectrum to switch it out.
Syntax joined in and replied with this 7 years ago, 3 hours later, 7 hours after the original post[^][v]#923,822
I just looked at your Spectrum location and they say your speed should be 100 MBS. They offered me a speed test which is there Los Angeles Server and pic is the result.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE SPEND ANY MONEY ON A ROUTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is the MODEM That decodes the Digital signal from Spectrum and it is TOTALLY Responsible for the Speed/Performance you get. The Router is a very simply Switch that is outboard from the Modem
There is nothing that stops you from adding/cascading an additional Router because there are situations where people need dozens of outputs from a single Modem However the Modem is the Engine/Transmission that is doing 99.9% of the work and the Router is Ancillary.
Cathy over time you for some reason stopped providing Download and Upload Speeds you get - Based on the last result you posted STREAMING Wood be near impossible. So what is your Brother using Spectrum for - Unless it is only for TV which means he is not using the Modem/Router
So I have a couple of Ideas that may help you solve this - Given Brother is not going to cooperate.
1:Requires a next door neighbor that has Spectrum Wi-Fi and you are on a good neighbor basis.
2:Make a paper copy print out of your current Spectrum Speed. Take it to the local Spectrum office. Show them your results and explain the non coop brother problem and Beg for Mercy. People in Customer service are paid shit wages and there is a chance someone in the office will help you - Call ahead to find the least busy time and do it then, so the office is not in a push to get to the next person.

It is none of my beeswax as to who will pay the account. So unless he continues to pay that bill - Someone else will get the fun of paying the monthly bill. That solves the problem because they get the keys to the account.
Now and this is not at all fair - You said the other day no allowance or was that yesterday - Tyme flies - No allowance and no welfare and as much as I wood like to ask - I won't - Yet well WTF?
So we at least saved your Benefactor some $$$ keeping you from buying a fast switch that has nothing fast to switch.
Now you did NOT ask me about > 1:Requires a next door neighbor that has Spectrum Wi-Fi and you are on a good neighbor basis.
Sharing a neighbors Wi-Fi is commonplace - It is even possible their signal is stronger than then your own Wi-Fi which you currently do not use given you are hard wired presently.
Some time wayyyyy back I suggested you find out how your device does when connected to a neighbors Spectrum.
So can you share your current screen shot of Spectrum speed?

The Spectrum modem we have no isn’t a router I don’t think. We also upgraded too a year ago since my brother actually did something.
We’re still plugged in to the router that I bought since I lost my cable extenders for my CAT6 cords. I was going to try and plug directly into the modem via Ethernet.

Over two years or more since Modems included the router - However where you live you end up with a much older system so no clue IF your brother got a integrated Modem with router.
What you need to do is really simple - Look at the Spectrum Modem model label and call them - No account number required to just call and ask if that Modem is current and includes the router
Lets assume it does. So all you need do is buy a cheep Ethernet cable or the extenders - Me I wood just buy the cable
Out of here in a few minutes - Betting you do have something from Spectrum that does not require anything but the cable OR You could just try your Wi-Fi

You mean connect to Wi-Fi while connected via Ethernet?
That one seems far-fetched to think it would boost speeds or make any difference. Plus my PC isn’t the issue. It’s every device we have on the router which is why I suspected that the router cannot handle all of the devices.

This, one hundred percent this, the account holder is my brother and this is easily remedied with him going into his account and authorizing me (or my mother), but this guy is either A) too tired from work to do anything, B) too lazy to click a mouse and keyboard, or C) thinks it's a hopeless endeavor and would rather find some blame to put on others like Donald J. Trump or the removal of net neutrality which he only found out about because of John Oliver since he doesn't do a lot of internet socializing because he believes that's "not true socializing" since it's not face-to-face and often looks down on people who do thinking that they are socially inept even when there have been studies shown that contradict this notion. He claims that he believes in science and that science changes based on new findings yet when something like this comes out he discredits it as if it's not valid. He claims to be a liberal even though due to his age he's acting a lot more like a conservative which means that the whole "female protagonist trends" in Hollywood and the hypersensitivity of everybody is something that stems from the right while neglecting the fact that this comes from the far-left. Yes, political correctness may have been something that the right has coined up, but the right tries to combat it (even though they too fall into the same trap). He's such an annoying twat.

I'm too afraid to do that in case they actually pay attention to voices, though, considering this is Spectrum, they most likely wouldn't.
That's just how they do things. It's kind of dumb, but they would likely say it's a security measure. But as noted above, this could be easily remedied but I don't know his password for his Charter account since it's one he doesn't tell anybody.
Though, wait a minute...

Oh! Spectrum! I just figured it out. How did I not see this before?! This whole modem shtick is an elaborate ruse designed to rope a bunch of autistic posters into following a story where you complain how hard it is being on the Spectrum!
