They are a good blend of history, forklore, and adventure.

Not sure why people tend to hate it especially the fourth one.

At World's End did go the way of supernatural, but you have to roll with the punches and come back with a dragon punch.

Um, no.

They were pretty entertaining though.

I was on board with cursed gold, zombie pirates, sea goddesses, and tentacle faced monsters. But yeah, that one was a bridge too far.

It was set in a historical time period, was it not?

And thinking back, what did World's End do differently when it came to the supernatural.

Mermaids, not as far fetched compared to the other things we've seen.

I suppose there were dealings with the afterlife.

It mostly just seemed like the real bullshit thing was turning the ship upside down.

It was set in a historic time period in the way stories about knights and dragons are set in a nonspecific "Ye Olde England" time period. I don't think I'd call PotC historic fiction though. It used some real world historic elements to build a tale.

The movies were pretty fun though. The supernatural elements were used to good effect to add to the story.

Fairytales usually don’t make references to real world people, places, or things. It’s like calling the Bible a fairytale from a secular atheist perspective. It would be merely a work of fiction because it still cites real world empires, etc.

Philip Swift or Henry Turner.

I think I'd probably call PotC historical fantasy. I wouldn't consider stories about mummies or vampires historic just because they are set in real world places.

Interesting choices. My memory of the fourth movie is pretty dim. Why the missionary guy?
