Topic: Why does nobody seem to like Star Wars' Finn?

Anonymous A started this discussion 7 years ago #79,044

I see Finn toys in the store and he feels like Booster from Turbo Man.

It's because he's black, isn't it? But it seems like even black kids passed him over.

Because grown-ass adults do not buy children's toys to play with.

They don't give Finn much personality.

brah every hero in kiddie movies is like that, luke didn't have a personality either

you just don't let finn do it because he's a brother and for some reason that bothers you

If Luke had no personality then how many menchildren cried that Rian Johnson ruined his character?

Luke got screen time to develop a personality. The original trilogy sees him go from whiny brat to cocksure hero during his character's journey. He steadily becomes more confident and sure of himself as he learns to trust in the force. Mark Hamill did a nice job, but his character Luke was star of the show and had a lot of opportunities to express himself.

The character of Finn just gets carried through the plot of the first movie where he is struggling with the idea of even having an individual personality and mostly gets to play "soldier guy" after that. John Boyega plays the character well, but his character is stuck in a supporting role that really doesn't have the time to explore his personal journey in any depth. I think the writers tossing him a few extra personally meaningful scenes might have made him a more interesting character.
