Linus Torvalds can be an insufferable asshole when he thinks he's right about stuff that he knows a lot about. I think the unofficial code of conduct before was something along the lines of: "Deal with it." To his credit, he's trying to be less of an asshole and hopes other people will be nice too.

You can read the whole CoC here. There's more to it than just Linus' behavior. Some things it addresses are legitimate problems, some things are general complaints that people have had forever, and there's a little shit-stirring going on too.

EDIT: Oh, we're talking about development of the Linux kernel itself, so this probably one of the times you can get away with just saying Linux.
