No the creator said that the weren't gay and then got dogpiled on Twitter.
One of the writers (out of many) saw them as a gay couple. But the creator (Frank Oz) said that they are not gay.

That's not what the local news said. So who actually created Bert and Ernie?

Frank Oz. People were attacking him over Twitter for saying that

I would definitely cede to the creator's vision over the worthless, trash opinion of some underpaid staff writer.

Of course! People are crazy nowadays! One guy on Twitter even said to him "you hate the gays, just admit that you hate the gays"
So pointless and rude

Right. Pointless and rude.
They should just write the characters into their next slash fanfic and get over it.

We encourage this type of behavior now. Disenfranchised groyos get applauded for behavior that wuld make a normal citizen seem like a paranoid, nagging harpy

Yeah I even Googled it and in some of the titles of the articles, they act like he said that they were gay. But when you read the actual print, he said the opposite. Weird

There’s a foolproof way of telling if Bert and Ernie are gay.
Look at one of the puppets’ lips. If the lips are around the other puppet’s cock, they’re gay.

Twenty years ago I remember listening to people call in to a talk radio show to argue back and forth about Teletubbies maybe being gay. Now they have Twitter. Nothing new is happening.

I'm not pompous enough to pretend like I speak for everyone by making broad generalizations, so I can't say "we" all thought they were crazy. People getting huffy about the sexuality of fictional characters is the same kind of non-issue that makes the rounds every few years. After Teletubbies, it was SpongeBob. It was Dumbledore a few years ago. Every time there seemed to be plenty of people encouraging it. I don't see society doing anything different now then they have before.

Ernie is a ward of the state and Bert is his caretaker. You can trust me because I wrote a letter that was featured in Sesame Street. It was the letter H.
