I showed my friend at the pub and he wants one, he wants to pay for the profile cutting and probably a days work to prep and weld the base and put a finish on it. That will get the prototype out of the way and actually get the thing built I guess, and he gets a cheap deal and "tests it for me" lol.
I'm between jobs and spent a couple of hours working on it today. 5mm steel plate bulb shaped thing. 300mm base, 600mm at the wide point, 700mm high.
Everyone is a critic and from the guys at the pub so far, the ash will fall out all around it, the base will burn the grass etc, so it needs to be up on a stand. I think that will ruin the look, so I told him to put it on a base of river stones or something like that. I think if it gets legs it will be 3 of the profiles extended longer and stabbed into the grass or welded to another flat plate that is as large as the outer diameter.
What do you think? How much would it be worth? Should I also make them out of polished stainless steel, make small wooden ones, etc?

One of the smaller profiles, I'm not cutting these by hand. Laser or water jet

Why not? That looks like hours and hours of fun with saws and files!

would you be opposed to using a mesh on the interior

I often polish surfaces to a high finish, so I'm used to hours of fun working through progressively finer grits and cutting compounds...
@previous (C)
That's not a bad idea. I could cut a small wrap maybe 50mm high and put it in after it's together. Thanks

Honestly, it looks pretty cool. I like your ideas for a base. The tops of the longer profiles look like they are going to get a lot of heat and soot if it sees any use. You could probably wire brush it clean if you cut them out of metal, but other materials might be problematic.

Yeah it'll blacken and rust after use, you call that shit "Rustic" and slap another $500 on the price for that sort of finish (when available!) lol. Hopefully it doesn't get so hot that the steel relaxes and bends a little and fucks the shape up

Oh you were down the pub, was you? Having a few cheeky pints?

If this thing can be my side hustle I'm all over it. If it's not this thing then it will be some thing.

I'd like to get these in front of landscape designers with a $2000 price tag on them. They'll probably put a pot plant in it or something

Make small ones and attach them with stems to a pole like flowers

I like it. Maybe even have a smaller version inside a larger one if it's decorative. I'll probably play around with the scaling after I've made one.

What did you end up making it out of? Is that just steel?

No problem having to give it a rustic finish then. Looks fucking great.
