Plenty of things the government provides make life fairer: roads, hospitals, schools, libraries, a social safety net, free healthcare, community programmes, and so on. Life with these things is unarguably fairer than without. Society will never be entirely fair, but we ought to improve things somewhat, and we can do that while striking a reasonable balance.
I'm glad we both live in countries where our government holds this same attitude.
