I think it's not so much physical violence, but more like being ostracized which I think would happen to an MtF transwoman (especially non-passing) in most places. The LGBTQIAAOMGWTFBBQ center of Los Angeles is one of the few places a non-passing* transwoman would be 100% accepted.
*Not saying Cathy does or does not pass (haven't seen her so I have no idea either way) but from what I've seen most transwomen definitely don't pass.
