Adobe, which make the premiere image editing software Photoshop, does not have full support for Apple. Adobe products run better on Windows.

that stereotype came from the early days of modern computing, which you either got an apple computer that had a full featured graphical interface, which made it better for creative types, or an IBM-compatible computer, which is also where "Mac or PC" came from. these days, adobe products on windows work as well or even better than on mac os x.

The way OS X prioritizes tasks allows you to easily load and process large media while maintaining decent responsiveness and multi-tasking.
It’s common to leave shit processing in the background and shift over to Mail, where you see that the client has requested another fucking change. On Windows, you can do that, of course, but there’s less stability and responsiveness, in my experience.
Also—OS X is very good with fonts in a way that I cannot describe. Windows breaks up libraries and families into odd subsets that are obnoxious.

What sort of documents, though? How many CPUs? What GPU? How much of the RAM is used? Do you have scratch disks?

Also, your paper probably has a lot of plugins for your workflow management. Those could be to blame. I never had issues with crashing, during my year in daily newspaper publishing. …and we used iMacs with lots of RAM.
