That's not an unreasonable fear. One of my friends was in Manhattan celebrating his birthday with friends and he got called a "fucking terrorist" because he and his friends are brown (he's a Hindu Indian-american). Shitty people exist everywhere and the way Americans treat visible racial/ethnic minorities sucks basically everywhere, even in super liberal big cities.
