Richard Dawkins is an ignorant fool, the same as Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens.

He's an idiot. Some of his ideas make sense but he's weird about religion.

Doesn't that pretty much describe Jesus though?

Watching Peterson try to explain society through his dreamworld lens of Jungian symbolism is as embarrassing as watching Velikovsky write fictional human histories through his understanding of mythology. All in all, they both come up with pretty interesting stories, but they are both so obviously pretend worlds based on pretend things. Modern day prophet? No.

Also, pretty much that.

If I wanna listen to weirdos I'd rather listen to Terrence McKenna talk about machine elves rather than listen to a bunch of boring mumbo jumbo about how I should be religious even if it's fake and that people should make their bed in the morning.

So, I just read Maps of Meaning...
Spoilers: It's a complete piece of shit
Seriously, this guy? C'mon. Make a better case. If chaos is feminine then your mom shouldn't be telling you to clean your room.
I'm genuinely interested in anyone who has an idea about how Peterson's ideas about anything add up to anything at all. Why do you think that's meaningful at all? He's butchered Egyptian and Mesopotamian mythology. Let me know if you have any interesting criticisms.

@935,296 (Captain Kate Carr) > postmodernism
Seriously, the guy relies on a kind of presuppositional bullshit to make his case. If we believe this untrue thing then I guess we must believe that untrue thing and we have no choice but to keep deluding ourselves. I'm seriously interested in how anyone believes his bullshit.
He desperately misquotes Friedrich Nietzsche in his books, and I just wonder how he comes to terms with Nietzsche's ghost (who I guess Peterson believes exists, given his bullshit arguments) pummeling him in his sleep.

Richard Dawkins would murder Jordan Peterson in a debate.
Anonymous G replied with this 7 years ago, 2 minutes later, 4 months after the original post[^][v]#935,316
@previous (Catherine !ttGirlsPl2)
He probably would. Dawkins lives in the real world, while Jordan Peterson lives in Jungian pretend land. I'm afraid that they would maybe agree on stupidity in the name of pretend stupidity.

most people will hear "postmodernist" and think, what the fuck is he even talking about
I mean, I sure did
does he mean deconstruction techniques that academics might have done for decades when writing some silly term paper that no one except for some tired graduate student will look at while depressed, faced with a stack of shit to grade for a professor

Well, that's the funny thing. He will take it apart, and then just say... "Well, it worked for our ancestors!"
Except it didn't. That's why we're here talking about it. It didn't work. Don't try to put a broken system back together. It hasn't worked since the 1600s. Just stop. The entire history of the modern world has been a giant rush of progress against people JUST LIKE YOU JORDAN PETERSON. We have been dragging your sorry asses forward into the future. Just shut the fuck up or die already. Go live on some stupid religious commune. I don't want to hear your bullshit.

The sad thing is that he has to try to take it apart. He really tries. If you are at all familiar with Egyptian history or Mesopotamian hisory, you'll quickly see that he is just cribbing off of pieces of the Egyptian Book of the Dead or the Enuma Elish that he likes.
He's trying to take a complex topic like 2000 years of Egyptian theology apart and boil it down. He fails. He fails miserably. He picks pieces of religion out like it's been true forever. He fails. It's like trying to take 2000 years of Christian mythology apart and just coming away with "Jesus said be nice to homeless guys."
I don't think Peterson would ever admit that Jesus said any kind of thing. I don't think Peterson would ever move himself to think anything so revolutionary, or even suffer to think that Christians should do anything like that. He's just a comfortable asshole who is in a comfortable place writing asshole articles about things comfortable asshole write articles about.

But now I'll definitely skip 12 Rules for Life when it's at the library discard sale in 20 years.

Goddammit. I was really looking forward to discussing his shit with you. I thought that you would be someone who I could ask about his writings. For the record, I have not read his 12 rules. I was really looking forward to your opinion on his take on Nietzsche. Anyway, if you want to talk about Jordan Peterson, I'm here. I would actually be interested in your input seeing as you are something of a kindred soul when it comes to some matters.

I love him because he has destroyed Anon Gs world and forced him into another autism flare up that may last years, judging from the outbursts ITT
