Topic: I'm going to the casino for the first time this weekend

Anonymous A started this discussion 8 years ago #76,630

Any tips?

I have about $200 and plan to play blackjack and maybe some slots. Is $200 enough?

Forget about that game unless you study because:
"The catch here is that if you don't play the proper strategy, the house edge is even higher. A typical blackjack player probably plays at about a 2-3% disadvantage, not the 0.5% listed in the table which is for a player using basic strategy. A craps player who makes sucker bets is facing a house edge higher than 0.8%."

However

"The odds on slot machines are terrible. Casinos make two thirds of their profits from slots. But smart gamblers avoid slots as surely as they do Lotto machines. ... Most people believe that Blackjack, the casino version of the card game 21, is the easiest and best game to play in a casino."

$200 will last hours many many hours longer so if all you expect is some cheap entertainment? Blackjack with $200 lol

Yes: avoid slot machines unless you like throwing money away, in which case consider a donation to the lovely fellows over at the JIDF.

what casino are you going to? watch out for indian casinos. their table games aren't cheap, and a lot of them play weird versions of games, like Ultimate-Poker or weird rules blackjack. blackjack is usually pretty standard, but where they'll get you is with unconventional betting rules. and weird house rules versions of standard games are all fucked as well, imo.

best tip i can give is that most dealers at most casinos are happy to give players advice when new to the game. just tell them you're new to the game and they'll sometimes be allowed to straight up tell you when you're about to fuck up. casinos in Shreveport were great about that, indian casinos not at all, they weren't allowed to tell you anything but rules and couldn't advise on choices. house rules. which made learning "ultimate-poker" costly and boring and i'll never play at that casino again. lost like 100 bucks in 20 minutes because the rules were fucked and half the hands i was just confused. so fuck that.

vegas is cool too, from what i've heard. so just find a game that looks fun and tell them you're new and want to learn and if they're cool and not indians you can probably expect them to make sure you have a very fun time.

tip 2, is tip your dealers. especially if they're being cool tip them frequently. with every win, you know? toss them a bit. doesn't have to be fuck loads, make sure you've got a lot of the smallest denomination chips and tip freely. if they're making money, they'll make sure you have a good time which means helping you not lose your ass immediately and stretching that 200 bucks out as long as they can. think about it like this, you can flow thousands of dollars through yourself by winning and losing winning and losing and each time the dealer takes a little scrape. eventually, usually inevitably you'll have exhausted your 200 bucks, but you've maybe transacted 2, 3, 4 thousand dollars. make sure the dealer gets his scrape, and he can help you sustain an inflow and outflow. but if you're a stingy cunt then the dealer will want to take your money as quickly as possible and find another looser player to sit in and scrape off of.

if they don't want to help, or aren't allowed to help, then tip them like a waiter. if you want.

tip your hostesses you inconsiderate ass. they'll get you drunk and give you free smokes.

It would be a good idea if you didn’t gamble alone. Also leave credit cards at home, just to be on the safe side. Take a set amount of money, if you lose it you won’t be tempted.

As far as games go I haven’t a clue, I work too hard for my money to risk it. Just remember the odds always favor the house, they’re in it to make money.

Have fun!

In the game of 21 without prior experience - $200 Will last about the same amount of the time it took you to cum when you lost your virginity

Casinos are stupid.

I lost $25 on roulette and then just drank and wandered around and watched other people play.

I was going to recommend doing that, but it looks like you figured it out for yourself.
