Don't bid until the last hour of the auction, wait until there are only a few minutes left.
That isn't really a tip on winning, just a tip on how to get a better price. Less time to have the other bidders jack the prices up trying to win.

Occasionally sellers will underprice an item only to be disappointed later. I generally don't bother with auctions, but there are some good deals to be found in ones ending soon. Just watch out, I think there's a setting where people can bid by proxy to a certain amount (ie: if you bid $100, I'll automatically bid the minimum higher, and repeat if necessary up to $150). I'm not too sure how it works, though, but it's a good idea to research that for your use as well.
