Yep. Big boxes on bottom, small boxes on top. Tall furniture like curios or whatever should be wrapped in blankets and strapped to the walls of the truck with boxes in the middle to keep anything falling over. Get the right sized truck and pack it completely, don't leave a bunch of space if you can avoid it, especially if you don't have cargo braces which you definately won't have.

Tape reinforces boxes significantly. Use a tape gun to tension the tape as you're closing up boxes. Run both horizontal and vertical strips of tape, 2 or 3 rows to make boxes less crushable, and tape up edges like you're shipping something.

If you do all the boxing hiring movers to help load and unload is cheap, by the way.

Finally pack your heaviest and densest stuff toward the front of the truck, not towards the gate. Try to evenly balance the load as much as possible.

Good luck!

You'll probably have an easier time packing a stationary truck.

Usually I try to avoid boxes
Suitcases half full of books and half clothes
Traveling bags full of clothes
Everything else in smaller containers (if they're little things) then put in strong reusable grocery bags

Furniture first then fill up the spaces w the bags
Milk crates are good for dishes

You might not need a whole moving truck if you're not moving appliances, i moved w a minivan

entire house move..

definitely worth hiring a professional crew to pack the truck and unpack...they will pad what needs it and are very efficient on the time of all the labor..

a good three man team of pros can do in six or eight hours what ten clueless individuals would be able to do in two or three days...and the pros will have almost no damage while the novices will fuck up a lot of shit if they are not extremely lucky..

I worked for a moving service back in the day..

pffffft..

love to see such a group try and start a moving business handling people's 1800 dollar granite counter tops...antique furniture and high dollar electronics and 100 year old China sets..

tell that to the family we moved once...and the dumbass I was working with picked his end up and before I could stop him turn it flat (Like carrying a pizza box)..

broke right in two...the boss was not pleased as the insurance deductible was more than the move was booked for..

Seems unlikely to me, granite isn’t even measured until the cabinets are done. Then they are custom fit for that cabinet layout, unless they have the same layout the countertops would be useless.

Not to mention that you have to raise it flat until you clear the upper cabinets. Even on an island you have to lift to cut the adhesive.
