I am also upset at Bourdain. I think it is very selfish to leave a family behind, and to have millions of dollars to get treatment, but not to get it.

You have 2.2 mil, why don't you get treatment for your obsession issues?

Why the fuck is everyone suddenly calling suicide "selfish" now?

I know, right? You can't take anything with you when you die so it's actually, like, the opposite of selfish.

You made a thread about the handbag lady, but when Bourdain dies you're grudgingly like "oh well he's kinda selfish too i guess" and only when you're called out on it.

I've seen it a lot on Twitter too. People who don't hesitate to point out that these people lived well off the success they found in life. People who, on any other day, would happily describe a little selfishness and agency over one's own life as a good thing. Suddenly it's selfish to have emotional problems? It kind of feels like victim blaming. Do these people think they are going to shame Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain back to life? I'm sure these two probably struggled with a lot of complex emotions on the way to suicide. Does dismissing their problems as "selfish" help people cope somehow?

The point is that they had the means to get help and treatment, but they selfishly refused, and ruined their families’ lives.

I'm sure they selfishly refused any help. I'm sure it was all as simple as that. Sorry they didn't live up to your expectations. I bet you blaming them now that they're dead makes their families feel a lot better.
