I think it is a horrible, kneejerk reaction from conservatives who love to punish others. They ruin lives in many cases, and do not take into consideration any circumstances of the crime.

Bad idea, but I also dislike laws prohibiting sending people to prison for certain circumstances (like first-time offenders). Similar reason, there needs to be discretion to look at the specifics of the offense.

Personally I was only thinking about mandatory minimums on drug laws... not sure why since the topic didn't say that. But for higher-level felonies where you have to prove some real evil to get the conviction I think minimums can make sense. So idk.
