And they have to keep doing increasingly crazy and dangerous shit like drinking paint thinner not because they're actually addicted to paint thinner, but so they can get the adrenaline rush of all their family and friends confronting them in the living room?

Since interventions just feed the problem, how would you even treat such a condition?

I think therapists are probably addicted to them which is why they stage them for people who don't even have a drinking problem.
