Just do not see hit as President. Nor can I see the Republican party dealing with him Too independent. He really is a Libertarian.
Ron Paul believes that the ninth and tenth amendments to the U.S. Constitution do not grant the federal government any authority to legalize or ban abortion. Instead, it is up to the individual states to prohibit abortion. That is 99% in conflict with the Republican position.
And there are dozens of other Libertarian Party positions that drive Republicans wacko.
Ron Paul really came down hard on Ronald Reagan. The list goes on and on and the guy will be ancient by the time the next presidency begins.

The problem with Paul calling himself a libertarian is that he's socially conservative and he has no problem legislating his personal morality at a federal level. (see: the We the People Act and the aforementioned Sanctity of Life Act) He pretends to be open-minded, but pleads states' rights whenever he is pressed on an issue.

He does seem to have some good ideas, but I'm not sure I'd call him a libertarian. There is a reason the Libertarian Party decided to run Bob Barr rather than Ron Paul in 2008.

I sorta figure that anyone who agreed to run as President under the Libertarian party wood be a Libertarian.
I think because he is bright and bright enough to know that running as such is just not going to win any serious big tyme election (unless they go Tea Party Ultra Conservative) not exactly Libertarian - well his choice is Republican or not at all.
In a way I think and I hate to put it this way - Ron Paul may be following in footsteps of asswipe Trump.
Its a way to get his message out there and out there it is- I like his honesty - believe him to be a very unique Honest Politician - I used to Lobby capitol hill for a few years on environmental matters, and gained much respect for even those I had no respect for prior. Met politicians who's staff laffed at them.
Became part of some things I still do not understand. I should add that I HAVE registered and Voted Republican and will always vote for best person not PARTY - Yet consider myself Liberal except in Fiscal matters and currently registered Democrat
