The way I see it, there are a few ways to get naming rights for a disease. The most common way is to discover the disease yourself, as a doctor. But given that medical school apparently takes 20+ years to get through now, I am not sure about that one.
Or you could perhaps set up a new research center with generous funding, and just have a contract in place that you get first dibs on naming any new diseases. That way you don't automatically get a new disease named after you with symptoms that you don't want to be associated with, like death from explosive diarrhea. I would name that disease after DasSheeple probably.

Looking for a new disease? Now if you really really want to find a unknown disease? Book the upcoming trips to Mars. There bacteria will be different and you can be the first to ingest some and get sick and have the bug named after you.
