People say to check my privilege but why should I? What happens if i don't and quite like my privilege! What are you or anyone else going to do?

I never understood what "check" meant in the context. I imagine it means like when you go to an establishment where a lady will "check your coat" and hat, put it in a safe place, and you can collect it as you leave. Still don't get it.
