A man and a woman were robbed at gunpoint after allegedly responding to an online ad to purchase a cell phone, officials said.
According to police, the victims agreed to meet and made arrangements to meet the seller near an apartment complex in the 16300 block of Pebble Beach Drive in Victorville.
The armed robbery happened at about 9:03 pm, on April 8, 2018, after the victims met with two unidentified males at the location.
“Subsequently, one of the male suspects brandished a handgun and they demanded the couple’s wallets, cell phones, and other valuables. The suspects fled on foot after taking the victims’ property,” stated Sheriff’s spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said this is another unfortunate reminder of the need to exercise extreme caution when meeting with an unknown party(s) to purchase goods being sold on-line.
“Although in this case the buyer did not go alone, they were still victimized. As added precaution, we would recommend taking one or more persons with you AND meeting in a public place that is well lit and well-traveled,” stated Rodriguez.
If this is what can happen when meeting up to buy a cellphone, what do you think might happen to me when I go to meet up for degredation and rape? I really really want to be broken and beaten down, for real, seriously!! ...but what if it really happens?
