Sure. Hackney and Shoreditch are really trendy and ideal for a bachelor-about-town (pronounced as one word) but personally I would reccomend somewhere in North London or within Cantral London's soho theatre district as that suits a more book learned person such as yourself. However, my top tip for a wealthy intellectual would be The Barbican, the area was build in the early 80's and located in central London and is also known for its brutalist architecture, it's also home of the Barbican center...
