House Republicans suffered an embarrassing setback Tuesday when they fell seven votes short of extending provisions of the Patriot Act, a vote that served as the first small uprising of the party's tea-party bloc.
I'm usually sad about Tea Party getting press attention for anything, but this made me smile a bit.

I was aware of this, I actually was gonna post about it yesterday.
I expected the tea party to embarras conservatives, but I didn't expect this.
I am gonna tone down what I say about the tea party. I won't judge them based on the few loons I know about. Still, they have many ideals that don't gel with rational thinking.
I think we finally have a chance to break the two party system. A renegade conservative party would be great for this country. We will always have a sane president, and republicans can't use the stupidity of the people to help the few wealthy rich people at the expense of the country.
The tea party needs a strong leader to unify under. That crazy bitch from Minnesota will not do.

Yeah, I don't think the Tea Party is fit to lead the nation anywhere, but I'm all for them showing the nation that there are people on the right who don't fit the current Republican mold and actually disagree with some of the policy. The bit that made this story noteworthy for me was seeing breakaway conservatives and Democrats breaking away from Obama's policies agreeing and voting on something out of principal rather than just voting to signal opposition to the "other camp".

Well, I think your point has some merit, but if you were more familiar with global economics, you might understand the issue more clearly. During the economic collapse of 2008, a new global entity seized upon the opportunity to have this kind of effect on governments. This group is lead by wealthy members of certain mid-east countries and is more or less responsible for the renewed interest in this type of politicking.
This group has launched a very effective popoganda campaign against the interests I represent. I hope that you will take the time to research further. I believe you will see things differently with more data available to you.

The thing I don't understand is why Obama didn't squash it as soon as he got into office when he had the chance, as he said he would, instead of doing the exact opposite.

The republicans have been so united in their attempts to stall progress, which makes this even more satisfying. It's like two wins in one.

I fucking hate the tea party. I went to a tea party gathering once, but nobody had fucking Earl Gray. WTF?
