Well that is obvious. You could flatten it out even more, technically. I'm not sure when the atomic structure gets to spread out that it breaks off, but a one-atom thick sheet would be much larger than a tennis court by far.

I think people only remember dreams they wake up during or very close to the end of.

Even then, they will lose these dreams after a short time. If you ask someone right after they wake up, withing 10 minutes, they will tell you more often than not what they dreamed of.
If you ask them, instead, in the middle of the day, they will more often than not, say they did not dream.
This serves a good purpose for animals. If a cat dreams the dog on the other side of the fence died, then he might be obliged to head on over there.

Haha, yeah. I don't think anybody knows for sure, but I heard as the brain requires constant stimulation, dreams are the brains way of providing that stimulation over night. But some people say they have never dreamed in their lives.

I've heard this too. Also that it might give us a chance to test out, and simulate experiences. Many people dream about what happened the day earlier, or about worries they have.

A few people have tested this. Stephene LaBerg, is one. They are hooked up to machines and then woken after being in REM for a while (this can be measures, it's just Rapid eye movement). They recall their dreams then. think the confusion is over our brains wiping the memories.
A good question, still on the table, is about NREM sleep. People are woken in NREM states, and some recall dreams, while some don't. I hope this is investigated more. Seems to me like daydreaming, or just wandering thoughts, and not so much a real dream.

Imagine two cats. Behind a fence is an angry dog.
Both cats dream he is killed, or perhaps that he moved to another area.
Cat A can remember his dreams well, and goes across the fence and is hurt/killed. He does not have kittens
Cat B quickly forgets the dream, avoids the dog, and has kittens later in life.
Dreams are not real, and animals who remember them are going to believe things that are not true. They cannot differentiate between waking and dreaming, at least not as well as humans. Sometimes I wake up and wonder if something really happened.
Obviously being disillussioned can harm your ability to survive, and pass on your genes.
This isn't rocket science.
We know animals dream, and we can observe their dreams by inhibiting sleep paralysis. this has been done to cats, and they will run around chasing, and being chased by figments of a dream.
Of course we know why dreams are erased.
